I purchased this tripod as a backpackable tripod, because I couldn’t afford a carbon-fiber model. That said, this tripod is great, considering the relatively low price. My setup can be rather heavy, with a Nikon D200 + 80-200 f/2.8 lens, but so far the tripod in conjunction with the midi-ball head, has been very sturdy.The great things about this tripod are the thumb clasps on the telescoping legs (rather than wingnuts), the leg warmers (great at 5am when it’s 30 degrees), and the well built and adjustable pivot points on the legs. I find the ability to have legs go totally horizontal is highly useful.

Hi Josh,
Glad you had a great weekend.
I love Wompatuck.
I’ve raced road bikes there for years. It is known as one of the hardest training criterium races on the East Coast. Besides the McCormack brothers it has also seen Tyler Hamilton and many other celebs of racing participate in the “A” race. I’ve won that race once in the 20+ years of racing.

It is also a very popular area for mountain biking. Once of the paved trails there are miles and miles of off road trails that go everywhere. We used to do “night” rides there. I love Wompatuck.
Erin and Erik have ridden their bikes there when they were kids. They also hung out during the Tuesday night crits.
There are munitions bunkers strewn about the park. There is/was still an active military presence somewhere in the deep back sections. Tom Vinson and I ran across a very tall, chain link fence topped with razor wire, some years ago during a mountain bike ride. We were on trails unfamiliar to us…we knew nearly all the trails…far out in the back of the park. Out of the blue we came to a large, chain link gate that was manned by 2 soldiers in full uniform and armed with M16′s. They told us we were in a restricted area…they were not in any way aggressive, just “matter of fact”, and told us to just move along…lol we were surprised and it added a “coolness” factor to the ride.

I miss Wompatuck a lot.
